Description of self/services for directory: My education includes a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Masters of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and am also currently pursuing certification as a Registered Play Therapist. I have experience working in community-based agencies as well as office settings, providing mental health services for children, adolescents, and adults.
Before beginning graduate school, I was blessed to have the opportunity to serve on a mission team in Argentina for two years. Through this experience, I gained a greater appreciation for a beautiful country and a deeper understanding of other cultures. I also speak Spanish and enjoy working with Latino families.
Throughout graduate school, I completed an internship at a pregnancy resource center, providing crisis counseling and facilitating a program focused on parenting skills training. As a mother to two young children I love helping others on their journey through pregnancy and the postpartum stage. Motherhood is a huge blessing but also comes with many challenges. I have a passion for walking alongside other mothers as they encounter both the joys and frustrations of parenting.
When requested by the client, I seek to help others develop a deeper understanding of God's presence and purpose in their circumstances. While my counseling orientation is based on a Christian worldview, I also utilize other approaches to therapy based upon client need. I have received training in play therapy and utilize this approach when counseling preschool and elementary age children. I have always loved art and often use creative approaches with all ages. It is my goals to work with you, wherever you are, and help you experience a new sense of peace and hope.

Welcome! It is such a privilege to be invited into the lives of the families that come into my office! Whether you have been referred or are looking for the right therapist, I’m happy to provide answers to your questions.
I specialize in child therapy and pre-teens (along with their families) who are experiencing anxiety, family stress, changes in family structure due to death or divorce, grief/loss, trauma symptoms, ADD/ADHD, behavioral issues, and difficulties adjusting to developmental changes. I also love to work with parents to help them build healthy communication skills with their children, manage difficult behaviors, and foster a strong attachment relationship. In order to help children reach their fullest potential, I use Play Therapy, as well as elements of Expressive Arts Therapy during sessions. These help to creatively expand the boundaries of the mind and provide a non-threatening environment for children to make sense of their inner world. To understand more about why we play, click here.
In addition to child therapy, I am also passionate about working with multicultural issues, including family stress as a result of immigration, language barriers/communication, etc. I also enjoy working with families and adults experiencing life changes, relationship stress, and self-image issues. I believe that each individual, child, and family is unique—because of this, I integrate different models to fit each client. In particular, I use play therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Narrative Therapy, all evidence-based practices. I believe in treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit, and integrate faith and spirituality into therapy to the extent that it is comfortable to you. I learn a great deal from you as my client and see it as a privilege to be invited into your life. I approach therapy with compassion, playfulness, and openness and respect your courageous decision to pursue therapy.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) here at SureHope Counseling and Training Center. My education background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech. I am currently receiving supervision toward certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). My background and training includes clinical experience at Pregnancy Resource Center, a county agency for teens and families engaging in family therapy and parenting groups, eating disorder treatment, as well as volunteer experiences with DivorceCare for Kids.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions! I look forward to working with you.
